Whether it’s trying to figure out how to duplicate it or trying to not. The vessel is placed in the kiln with a glaze, and the temperature rises to about 1700-1800 degrees within that hour. It is taken out of the kiln with long tongs, and placed in a trash can lined with combustibles, like sawdust and newspapers.
These combustibles immediately catch fire and the tight fitting lid is placed. The resulting reduction and smoke create exciting color and texture. In about an hour, after the can cools down, the lid is removed. It’s always a surprise!
Art is a journey and always changing, as new things and new techniques catch my interest. I always hope to be learning, and growing.
